Return to TOC Previous: Go To Museums Hiking Let’s see, what can we do outside that is free, provides some nice scenery, healthy, quiet, gives us a chance to talk, and is educational. Hmmm. How about a walk through the woods! My son loves to go into the woods. We (I) carry a backpack with a change to clothes for him, dry socks for me, water, a little food, a whistle, matches, a flashlight and a few of those foil “emergency” blankets. You will probably never need any of this emergency gear, but it adds a sense of adventure when you pack it along. And if you ever do need it, you will be glad its right there on your back. Find a topographic map of the area that you will be hiking in. Buy a book on outdoor skills. If you really want to get into the scene, and enjoy the company of other Dad/Son combos, join the Scouts of America. Next: Go Fishing |
